The people at Project Hamad (who I mentioned a few days ago in this post) have a poster campaign with a stylized image of Mr. Hammad reminiscent of the “André the Giant has a Posse” stencils.

An original “André the Giant has a posse” stencil

I suppose the point is to associate with the viral, populist roots of the “Posse” phenomenon, but the original image is the starting point for jokes now. I wonder if this design is an effective rhetorical strategy to use for such a serious subject. Specifically, I wonder if when people who are aware of the André the Giant images see a Project Hamad poster, they will think it is something much less serious than it actually is.
